A man went into a coffee shop on the campus of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He was a vice president at the university. He ordered a vegan muffin and a tea. Rap music was playing overhead. The vice president, averse to rap, challenged the barista. She apologized and switched it off, and offered him the vegan muffin for free. He refused and insisted on paying. She apologized again and offered the free vegan muffin again. He refused again.
Four days later, at the vice president’s request, the barista was dismissed from her job.
